The Last Olympian Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week I'm reviewing the Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. I really liked this book, and I was excited about it because it was the last in the Percy Jackson series, and it was going to be epic. It met all my expectations... maybe a little too much. Here is the synopsis from the front flap:

All year the half-bloods have been preparing for battle against the Titans, knowing the odds of a victory are grim. Kronos’s army is stronger than ever, and with every god and half-blood he recruits, the evil Titan’s power only grows.

I liked this book a lot. There was tons of action, romance, myths, and secrets revealed. I'll start with the romance, the love triangle is decided upon between Percy, Annabeth, and Rachel. (And the end solution made me happy.) There were many more myths added as well, lots of myths about titans, but one goddess you might no have known about before this book was Hestia goddess of the Hearth. There were tons of secrets revealed, but of course I can't tell you without spoiling. For the action, like I said, there were tons of action. I was looking forward to the action of this book, but it disappointed me. Not because there is too little action but because there is too much. I like reading action packed books, but I don't like spending 30 pages talking about 1 small battle. I also like the dialogue of this book, the author makes every one of his characters funny and sarcastic and I like it. I gave this book a 4/5 stars just because of the tons of action.

The Battle of the Labyrinth Book Review

This week I'm reviewing The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan. I really enjoyed this series and I'm excited to share my opinions with you. Here is the synopsis from the front flap:

As an incoming freshman, Percy isn't expecting his high school orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse. In this fourth installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos's army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop them, Percy and his demigod friends will set out on a quest through the Labyrinth-a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn.

My first impression of this book was that it had a very nice cover and it leaves you with so many questions, kind of like the second book in this series. I liked this book a lot, there was continuous action that didn't stop throughout the whole book. I liked seeing all the monsters from my favorite Greek myths be brought to life in a current time. The only thing I disliked about the book was that they were in the Labyrinth throughout the whole book, and it had a couple parts where it dragged on. Other than that I thought the book was great. My rating of this book is 4/5 stars. The next review that will be up, will be for The Last Olympian, the fifth and last Percy Jackson book, by Rick Riordan.

The Titan's Curse Book Review

Hi guys,
This week has been great, I went to Carowinds Saturday, and haven't really done anything the rest of the week. I read some in The Secret Circle (Love It!) and Darkly Dreaming Dexter (REALLY REALLY LOVE IT!) which I can't wait to review for you guys soon. The book review for this week though, is the third book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, The Titan's Curse (*which is my personal favorite of the series) Here is the summary from the front flap:

When the goddess Artemis goes missing, she is believed to have been kidnapped.And now it's up to Percy and his friends to find out what happened. Who is powerful enough to kidnap a goddess? They must find Artemis before the winter solstice, when her influence on the Olympian Council could swing an important vote on the war with the titans. Not only that, but first Percy will have to solve the mystery of a rare monster that Artemis was hunting when she disappeared -- a monster rumored to be so powerful it could destroy Olympus forever.

My first impression of this book was great, I loved how it had a Pegasus on the front, which just so happened to be Black Jack, which is Percy's black Pegasus. I loved this book, it was full of action, adventure, romance, mystery, and basically anything else that makes a great Young Adult books. I give it 4/5 stars, just because it was a little too childish for me. This was the first book in the series that had someone important die in it. I loved that first death, it showed Riordan wasn't afraid to kill a character anymore. I loved being in that suspense of not-knowing who would die next. Next week is the book review of the fourth book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the Battle of the Labyrinth. The Sea of Monsters Book Review

This is the last week of school for me. Thank God! The Book Review for this week is The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan, which is the second book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series. This was a short book so it will be a short review. Here is the Summary from the back of the book:

After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson is finding his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson, a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any normal friends. But things don't stay quiet for long.

Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders that protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters, the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia. My first impression of this book was good, I actually read this book before the Lightning Thief not knowing it was a sequel. I liked the cover, the eye on the cover was very eye-catching. Having read the Odyssey, I recognized a lot of parts from that epic poem in this story. Some examples are the sirens, the cyclops, Scylla and Charybdis, and Circe. I like when I can relate two stories, especially with them being so alike. I give this book a 4/5 stars, just because it was a little too short and childish for me, but overall a fantastic book. Next week I will be doing a book review on the Titans Curse by Rick Riordan, my favorite book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Check this book out as well as the whole series by Rick Riordan.

The Lightning Thief Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week's review is going to be on the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan has written several other books, but this is the most successful. I read this book series in middle school. I recommended this book to several of my friends, and now I'm recommending it to you guys. Here is the summary from the back of the book:

After getting expelled from yet another school for yet another clash with mythological monsters only he can see, twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is taken to Camp Half-Blood, where he finally learns the truth about his unique abilities: He is a demigod, half human, half immortal. Even more stunning: His father is the Greek god Poseidon, ruler of the sea, making Percy one of the most powerful demigods alive. There's little time to process this news. All too soon, a cryptic prophecy from the Oracle sends Percy on his first quest, a mission to the Underworld to prevent a war among the gods of Olympus.

My first impression of this book was good, I picked it up because I liked the mysterious look of the cover. After picking it up and reading the summary, I saw it was about Greek gods/goddess'. I love Greek Mythology and bought this book immediately. This book is very original, bringing old Greek Myths and putting them in a modern time. It's great, and the idea was brilliant. This book became a movie in 2010 starring Logan Lerman as the lead role of Percy Jackson. It was a good movie, and an even better book series. I give this book a 4/5 stars, just because it was a little childish, there were a couple scenes in which I thought I was reading a 3rd grade book. Other than that it was a good book, next week I will do a book review on The Sea of Monsters, the second book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, by Rick Riordan.

The Lost Hero Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week I will be reviewing the Lost Hero by Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson books. I finished this book yesterday, and I can't stop thinking about it, I loved it. It dragged a little at the beginning but picked up when they started the quest. It's a good mix between Greek and Roman gods/goddesses. Here is the summary from the front flap of the book:

Jason has a problem. He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?

Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.

Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god.

My first impression of this book was good, I read the Percy Jackson books (which I hope to be doing Book Reviews on soon) when I was in middle school, so I knew what I was getting myself into with these books, well at least I thought I did. There were so many twists and turns and secrets and new adventures in this book, I mean every time you flipped a page it was a new thing. It was great, and it was nice how Riordan tied everything together in the end explaining a lot of what was kept secret the whole book. He also left many secrets to be answered in the next installment of this series, The Son of Neptune. I give this book a 4/5 stars, because like I said earlier, it dragged a little in the beginning to me. I recommend this book to any one, not just Greek mythology fans, but anyone looking for a great, action-packed, and funny book to read. I look forward to the Son of Neptune book. I don't know what will be the book review for next week... Divergent? The Lightning Thief? Twilight? All to come, but which first???
