The Lightning Thief Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week's review is going to be on the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan has written several other books, but this is the most successful. I read this book series in middle school. I recommended this book to several of my friends, and now I'm recommending it to you guys. Here is the summary from the back of the book:

After getting expelled from yet another school for yet another clash with mythological monsters only he can see, twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is taken to Camp Half-Blood, where he finally learns the truth about his unique abilities: He is a demigod, half human, half immortal. Even more stunning: His father is the Greek god Poseidon, ruler of the sea, making Percy one of the most powerful demigods alive. There's little time to process this news. All too soon, a cryptic prophecy from the Oracle sends Percy on his first quest, a mission to the Underworld to prevent a war among the gods of Olympus.

My first impression of this book was good, I picked it up because I liked the mysterious look of the cover. After picking it up and reading the summary, I saw it was about Greek gods/goddess'. I love Greek Mythology and bought this book immediately. This book is very original, bringing old Greek Myths and putting them in a modern time. It's great, and the idea was brilliant. This book became a movie in 2010 starring Logan Lerman as the lead role of Percy Jackson. It was a good movie, and an even better book series. I give this book a 4/5 stars, just because it was a little childish, there were a couple scenes in which I thought I was reading a 3rd grade book. Other than that it was a good book, next week I will do a book review on The Sea of Monsters, the second book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, by Rick Riordan.

Divergent Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week I'm reviewing a book that I finished yesterday, a book that I received this past Monday, a book that still has me in awe. Divergent by Veronica Roth. It's a dystopian book, it's also the first in a series of... I believe... three books. This book has become my second favorite book series' of all time. I loved it so much in fact that I talked with my friend about it all day today. The weird thing about that sentence is that my friend didn't read the book. She kept telling me to be quiet because she wanted to read it but I couldn't help myself, and by the end of the day she was trying to avoid me haha. Here is the summary from the front flap of the book:

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). My first impression of this book was great. I loved the cover the flame in the center of the book was very eye-catching. After reading the synopsis I wanted to read it even more. I found out about this book in February, and I had, what seemed like, a wait that took forever. When I found out it was out, I bought it immediately and started reading right after I bought it. I couldn't finish this novel as fast as I normally could, due to homework and studying for my EOC's that are coming up. Though, this weekend when I found out I was free, I read this book to the end. I loved this book, I give it 5/5 stars, and recommend it for anyone who loves action, romance, and an overall great book. The Lost Hero Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week I will be reviewing the Lost Hero by Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson books. I finished this book yesterday, and I can't stop thinking about it, I loved it. It dragged a little at the beginning but picked up when they started the quest. It's a good mix between Greek and Roman gods/goddesses. Here is the summary from the front flap of the book:

Jason has a problem. He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?

Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.

Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god.

My first impression of this book was good, I read the Percy Jackson books (which I hope to be doing Book Reviews on soon) when I was in middle school, so I knew what I was getting myself into with these books, well at least I thought I did. There were so many twists and turns and secrets and new adventures in this book, I mean every time you flipped a page it was a new thing. It was great, and it was nice how Riordan tied everything together in the end explaining a lot of what was kept secret the whole book. He also left many secrets to be answered in the next installment of this series, The Son of Neptune. I give this book a 4/5 stars, because like I said earlier, it dragged a little in the beginning to me. I recommend this book to any one, not just Greek mythology fans, but anyone looking for a great, action-packed, and funny book to read. I look forward to the Son of Neptune book. I don't know what will be the book review for next week... Divergent? The Lightning Thief? Twilight? All to come, but which first??? Invincible Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week I will be reviewing Invincible by Sherrilyn Kenyon, it's a great series. I reviewed the first book in the series, Infinity, earlier this year. So if you haven't read the first book yet, then you might not want to read this review for Spoiler reasons. I thought it was cool how I put the Book Trailer for Plague up last week. I liked it so much that I decided to do it for every book review. I just thought it would make this blog original, because I haven't seen a book review where they post the book trailer for it as well. So you can be looking forward to the book trailer of Invincible at the end of this post. Here is the summary for Invincible:

Nick Gautier’s day just keeps getting better and better. Yeah, he survived the zombie attacks, only to wake up and find himself enslaved to a world of shapeshifters and demons out to claim his soul.

His new principal thinks he’s even more of a hoodlum than the last one, his coach is trying to recruit him to things he can’t even mention and the girl he’s not seeing, but is, has secrets that terrify him.

But more than that, he’s being groomed by the darkest of powers and if he doesn’t learn how to raise the dead by the end of the week, he will become one of them...

My first impression of this book was good, it looked Gothic but not grimy like the other one looked to me. I was really pleased to see that they had another tribal looking circle tattoo thing on the cover as well. I was really looking forward to this book, I really liked the first one, it was funny, sarcastic, action packed, drama filled, and very supernatural. This book was not a let down. It was superb, it was even more funny and sarcastic and supernatural than the first. I loved this book, it kept me laughing for a while even after I finished the book. I give this book 4/5 stars because the last 50 pages seemed rushed to me. I was looking forward to a great final battle, but it ended really abruptly and I was disappointed by that and that alone. Plague Book Review

This week I'm doing a book review on Plague by Michael Grant. This is one of my favorite series'. This book series is not for the faint of heart. It is a very graphic, gory, weird, and yet totally AWESOME book series. This is the fourth book in the Gone series, if you haven't read the first couple books, or seen the blog posts about them, then check them out. This book was the most graphic, and also the best book of the series. I will post the book trailer of this book at the bottom of the post. Normally I don't like book trailers, but this one was actually really good and matched what the book was about. But anyway... Here is the summary from the front flap of the book:

My first impression of this book was good, I like the reoccurring image of the gone books (the one word titles, and the two people on the front of the book two people on the back of the book thing) This one I was shocked that they had Astrid on the front without Sam, but once I read the book, I saw why this happened. It was because Sam and Astrid were not together in this book, until the last ten to twenty pages. (By "not together", I don't mean not dating, I literally mean... Not... Together) I thought I wouldn't like this, but surprisingly I liked it better that they were apart. Sam did his thing, and Astrid did hers, and there was hardly any drama between them during the whole book. Sam went on a special mission for Albert, (fun fact: my admiration of Albert went rapidly down hill while reading this book)and Astrid was slowly going insane while taking care of little Pete. There was also a terrible sickness that had you literally coughing up your insides. The Darkness' plans have gotten really diabolical. It involves Drake/Britney, Bugs that are nearly indestructible and eat you from the inside out, and Finding Nemesis. (Another Fun Fact: I used to feel sorry for Britney, now I hate her more than I do Drake... I didn't think that was possible) Caine and Diana have a lot of things going on with them. (My normally increasing hate of Caine lightened a bit during this book) Overall this book was the best so far. I give it 5/5 stars because it was really good and had slim to no flaws. Check this book series out it's the best. (Mutants, Talking Animals, Killer Insects, a sickness that has you coughing up your insides... what more could you ask for?) There will be two more gone books after this, Fear and Light, I can't wait for either. Check out the blog next week for a review of Invincible by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight Book Review

Hi Guys,
This weeks book review will be on The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight. This will be the final book review for this series, that is until the next Vampire Diaries book comes out. Yes, I thought this was the last book as well, that is until L.J. Smith announced that she will be starting a continuation of the series with three new books. I myself wish she would just quit. I love her books, but it just seems like this series is ongoing, and I just want it to end. On a better note, I have been reading the Plague book by Michael Grant. Which is really really good, so I am hoping to put up the book review for that, next week, or the week after next. Well getting back on subject, here is the summary from the front flap of the book:

My first impression of this book was great, I loved how it had Bonnie on the front. Bonnie is one of my favorite characters, also one of the only reasons I have continued to read the books. Although I like the cover with Bonnie, I feel like a better candidate for the cover would be Meredith. She had a major role in this book, a lot of her secrets were finally revealed in this book. This book should have been named Secrets or something of that nature due to the fact that so many secrets were revealed in this book. Most were about Meredith but some were about Stefan, Damon, Bonnie, Elena, Matt, and also the town itself. I really liked this book, it kept me on my toes the whole time (except for the last 75 pages or so). With the constant revealing of secrets, this book was put as my third favorite book from this series. The last 75 pages were drawn out, I didn't like how long they spent talking to the council. But other than that, this book was great. I give this book 4/5 stars, because of the last 75 pages. You guys should really check this book out. Come back here next week for another book review, which will hopefully be Plague, but if not that it will be Invincible by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls Book Review

This weeks book review will be a continuation of The Vampire Diaries Book Review... Saga? ... any way I hope you guys like this one. I'm sorry that this week I will not be degrading a book, this book was better than Nightfall, but not by too much. Here is the summary from the front flap of The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls:

Elena Gilbert's love, the vampire Stefan Salvatore, has been captured and imprisoned by demonic spirits who are wreaking havoc in Fell's Church. While her friends Bonnie and Meredith explore the evil that has taken over their town, Elena goes in search of Stefan.

In order to find him, she entrusts her life to Stefan's brother, Damon Salvatore, the handsome but deadly vampire who wants Elena, body and soul. Along with her childhood friend Matt, they set out for the slums of the Dark Dimension, where Stefan is being held captive. My first impression of this book was pretty good. I liked it because, it had Damon on the cover, and showing him on the cover I somehow knew he must play a very large part in this book. I was correct, he does play a very large part, which I didn't like. I never really liked Damon, mostly because he changed his ways for Elena. My friend Brittany, had loved Damon in the first two books, but by Nighfall she felt like the author had turned Damon "fluffy". I believe this, and think it's hilarious. I like Stefan in all the books, I feel like I can relate to him in some ways, and I liked how he loved Elena from the jump. I can't share a lot about this book besides the fact that Damon is in it a lot and Stefan is not. I liked this book enough to give it 3/5 stars, but that is about the MAXIMUM I will give it. I didn't like it that much because over half the book was in the Underworld, where it was Dark, Nasty, and Sorrowful the whole time. I did like the next book in the series though, which is The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight, which I will be reviewing next week, so be sure to check it out.

The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Nightfall Book Review

This is the second Book Review for this week, and I believe you are pretty caught up on my life from the previous post... (again I'm sorry about that I have a tendency to ramble) So for this Book Review I intend on focusing ONLY on the book. Here is the blog where I "rag" on a book. My first time actually "hatin' on" a book publicly. I hope you enjoy it from here on out. Here is the summary from the front flap of the book:

My first impression of this book, was actually a good one. It has a flawless looking Elena on the cover, symbolizing that she is alive again. Too bad that my first impression of this book didn't match what I thought after reading it. With the addition of fox spirits, Elena being a baby (literally), the possesion of Damon, the kidnapping of Stefan, and the CONFUSING forest scene with Elena and Damon, I didn't like this book very much. The one part I did like was seeing the previous characters like Bonnie, Meredith, Ms. Flowers, and Matt. If they wouldn't have been in this book, I would have completely hated this book. I give this book 1/5 stars, because of it's lack of satisfaction, and interest. I hope you guys enjoy it, but I definately didn't. The next Book Review will be a little better, it is going to be on The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls. This book was somewhat better, so check it out next week.

The Vampire Diaries: The Fury and Dark Reunion Book Review

Hi Guys,
I know I didn't do a book review last week, so this week I will do two. Thank God my computer/internet works at home, because at school we have no connection because of the storms going on. Which kind of sucks seeing as i have some online classes. But no worries I finished all my work Monday because online classes are rather easy... well anyway, This weeks book review will be following the last post, it will be The Vampire Diaries: The Fury and Dark Reunion and The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Nightfall. Also I go to Carowinds this weekend, and I can't wait... Oh wait there I go off topic again... haha. Here's the Summary from the back of The Vampire Diaries: The Fury and Dark Reunion book:

Elena: transformed, the golden girl has become what she once feared and desired.

Stefan: tormented by losing Elena, he's determined to end his feud with Damon once and for all—whatever the cost. But slowly he begins to realize that his brother is not his only enemy.

My first impression of this book was alright, it wasn't nearly as captivating as the first one, but I still bought it, so I'm not complaining. I read this book directly after the first, and I was actually just finishing it when The Vampire Diaries show was premiering, so that was pretty cool going directly from page to screen. I enjoyed this book the most out of the whole series, I wish I could share all my favorite parts and tell you what I thought about certain scenes, but since it is a sequel I'm unable. i give this book 5/5 stars because it was full of action, romance, and loss. It had a lot more of the paranormal aspect than the previous one did, and that I liked very much. I also liked how the author resolved it. Unfortunately it doesn't get better from here. The next book review will be one of me... "ragging"... on the First book of The Vampire Diaries:The Return series. Make sure to check it out. I hate "ragging on books normally but this one I don't have a problem with. So as I said before check out the series and the blog for more info.

The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week, I'm getting the second book in the Chronicles of Nick series, Invincible, I also plan on finishing The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight this week. Speaking of The Vampire Diaries, that is going to be the book review this week. The first omnibus of the Vampire Diaries, The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle, is the first two books of the Vampire Diaries combined into one. These books were actually written in 1991 (so NO it's not a Twilight knock-off lol) and L.J. Smith has also written several other great books for Young Adults that I will be reviewing in the near future. Here is the summary from the back of the book:

Elena: the golden girl, the leader, the one who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: brooding and mysterious, he seems to be the only one who can resist Elena, even as he struggles to protect her from the horrors that haunt his past.

Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him. Determined to have Elena, he'd kill to possess her.

My first impression of this book was that it looked interesting. The cover was great, and I loved the little bit of blood on Stefan's bottom lip, it was a nice touch. I'm not going to lie, I wanted to read the Vampire Diaries only after I saw that they were going to make a show about it on the CW. I'm glad I read the books first because they are so much more different than the tv show. This book is a nice paranormal love story that is compared to twilight, but seeing as how the vampire diaries was written first, twilight should be compared to it. But that's besides the point, I really liked this book series, and it had me up several nights flipping pages violently. I give this first book 4/5 stars, just because it took a little too long to get into the paranormal aspect of it, but besides that I loved it. Check this book series out, and also check out the tv show, it comes on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. on the CW. But only check out the show after you read the books. Haha.
