Beautiful Creatures Book Review

Hi Guys,
This week I'm going to review Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. This is the first book in the Caster Chronicles. This book tells an amazing story with bewitching characters, and plot twists. Here is the synopsis from the back of the book:

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

My first impression of this book was that it was going to be amazing, just simply because, after reading the synopsis, it left me with so many questions. I hardly knew anything about what this book was about, and yet I bought and read it anyway. That's something that's never happened to me, and I loved it. I read half the book in anticipation of who Lena really was, I had my suspicions of who she was, one of which was very close, but not exactly who she was. I loved that when we learned who she is, it's something that has a very unique twist on it. It was very easy to connect with the characters in this book, even the minor characters held my attention when the story drifted to their scenes. I could really connect with Ethan, he reminded me of myself in some ways. I really enjoyed the fact that the male character was the "normal" one. I also liked how Ethan wasn't just a dumb jock, but he was somewhat intelligent. I also liked Lena and her family, one of my favorite characters was Macon, and I loved learning more about his character. I loved the "powers" in this book, I thought they were very unique. I give this book 4/5 stars. I don't believe there is a specific reason that this is a 4/5 star book, it just simply was not a 5 star book to me. I hope the books get better as they go, not that this book was bad, but I would love to see how amazing this series could be.

Additional Announcement: This book is also becoming a movie that is set to release in 2013. Most of the actors/actresses are not that well known, and I love that. They will start filming for this movie in just a couple of days. I can't wait to see this book come to the big screen.

The Secret Circle: The Captive Part 2 and The Power Book Review

Hey Guys,
This week I'll be reviewing The Secret Circle: The Captive Part 2 and The Power by L.J. Smith. This is an omnibus of the books that were written in the 90's. This is a story about a coven of witches and their adventures. This book contains the second half of the second book and the entire third book. Here is the synopsis from the back of the book:

CAUGHT IN THE STRUGGLE BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL...
Cassie has joined the most alluring-and deadly-in-crowd imaginable. But power comes with a price, and it's more dangerous than she knows. Torn between the dueling desires of the two leaders of the Secret Circle, she must ultimately choose between saving all of the New Salem, and her own dangerous love for bewitching Adam, which threatens to tear the circle apart. In the ultimate battle between good and evil, will Cassie's supernatural powers be strong enough to lead the coven out of danger? Or will she fall prey to the dark forces within?
...WILL SHE SACRIFICE HER LOVE FOR THE CIRCLE TO SURVIVE?

My first impression of this book was good, because I had already read the first book, and I liked it, so I was very excited for this one and I couldn't wait to see how it ended. This book was very good as well, it didn't disappoint. I liked how the characters developed, and I also liked how the plot played out and ended. I was rooting for Cassie and Adam, but I was disappointed at the way it ended (Spoiler: I mean... how could Dianna just do that... and I bet Adam was happy about Dianna just giving him up(sarcastic). I give this book 4/5 stars because I liked it, I didn't like how it ended abruptly and the exact way it ended, but I think everyone should read it. :D

The Secret Circle: The Initiation and The Captive Part 1 Book Review

Hey Guys,
This week I'll be reviewing The Secret Circle: the Initiation and The Captive Part 1 by L.J. Smith. This is an omnibus of the books that were written in the 90's. This is a story about a coven of witches and their adventures. This book contains the first book and the first half of the second. Here is the synopsis from the back of the book:

The circle's power has lured her home
Forced to move from sunny California to gloomy New England, Cassie longs for her old life. Even so, she feels a strange kinship to a terrifying group of teens who seem to rule her school. Initiated into the coven of witches that's controlled New Salem for hundreds of years, she's drawn into the Secret Circle, a thrill that's both intoxicating and deadly. But when she falls for the mysterious and intriguing Adam, Cassie must choose whether to resist temptation or risk dark forces to get what she wants—even if it means that one wrong move could ultimately destroy her.

My first impression of this book was that I wasn't going to like it. I've never really read any books about witches besides Harry Potter (and the witches/wizards from Harry Potter are WAY different than the witches in these books). I then learned that a friend of mine read it, and she told me that I should read it because it was really good. Even after that I didn't want to read it. It wasn't until I saw that the book was being adapted into a show that decided to read it. (I don't know why, but when I find out a book is being made into a movie/tv show, It makes me want to read the book, if it sounds decent, I guess I just like to compare them, and be happy with the result, I don't like when things are changed around to much(Vampire Diaries/Secret Circle) but I still like them anyway). I'm glad I chose to read the books, they are amazing. I loved them, and I loved the witches from this book... about evenly to the witches/wizards in Harry Potter. I liked the plot, and I really liked the characters. I like books with several important characters like this, because I like to see what happens to each of them. I give this book 4/5 stars, because I liked it... but I don't think it was one of my favorites, but you should definitely check it out anyway. :D
